The Wonders of Oatmeal
Feb 6th, 2008 by ByNature
Oatmeal is one of the best natural treatments for the skin. It helps relieve dryness and it restores natural moisture which aids in the healing of minor irritations. These minor irritations can be due from the skin’s sensitivity to certain ingredients in skin care products, chemicals found in household cleaning products, excessive exfoliation, and many more. Cleaning the skin with products that contain oatmeal can help soothe it from irritation and reduce the discomfort of itchiness.
.
Oatmeal in itself absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities but gently exfoliates the skin, leaving it soft and smooth. Oatmeal also deep cleanses the pores without irritating or drying out the skin. All in all, cleansing and exfoliating with oatmeal provides the skin a natural and healthy glow.
This wonder grain also happens to be very soothing on the skin and can give some healing for problem skin. For people with psoriasis or eczema, their skin can get a lot of relief from oatmeal, not only for the itching but also for the redness and the pain.
For my handmade soaps, I use finely ground oats that are gentle but very effective. The bars can be used directly on the body for some help in removing dead skin cells. But for more sensitive areas of the body like the face and the neck, I always suggest to lather up the handmade soaps with your hands first then apply the lather on those areas. The same goes for baby skin.

Here’s something to share about:
Our skin needs to be cleaned periodically of impurities. As skin functions normally, sweat glands and sebaceous glands rid our bodies of waste and toxins. They also trap external pollutants on the skin’s surface in a barrier of sebum and sweat. It is our job to clean the slate regularly.
Exfoliants are materials with irregular textures used to release debris which collects on the skin’s surface. They add some texture to our soap’s lather, increasing the soap’s cleansing qualities: the grainier lather removes dirt and dead skin cells while stimulating the healthier cells below…When using exfoliants, never rub with force. Soap and a little texture will pick up much debris, without a heavy hand.
