Vegetable Oils are Better
Jul 9th, 2007 by ByNature
No doubt, vegetable oils are far more better for our health and on our skin compared to animal fats like tallow (beef fat) and lard (pig fat). But these animal fats are still commonly used to manufacture commercial soaps because they are so much cheaper.
There are a lot of reasons why one is to consider using vegetable-based soaps instead, and here are some of those reasons why their animal fat-based counterparts are best to be avoided:
- they clog the pores
- they can cause blackheads
- they can increase the chances of having eczema, especially for those with sensitive skin
- their skin care benefits are negligible
- the fat tissues are the ones that accumulate the toxins and synthetic hormones injected into or fed to the animals to bulk them up
- strong scents are used to mask their odor and these strong scents can cause skin irritation in itself
Lastly, to me, it’s just so against animal rights. True, the fats are only a by-product of the meat, but because there is much profit in selling these by-products, it financially supports the sales of meat, allowing lower meat prices and, in effect, promoting more meat consumption. This then results to more killing of animals.
So, you see, vegetable-oil based soaps are so much better to use on our skin (and for the sake of the animals). From now on, try to make sure that you read the ingredients of the soaps you buy. If it has animal fats and you have a skin problem, you know the culprit. Be smart with what you use on your body.
